Sales Engineer (SE)

Fully Remote (US) $165,000 OTE

About CloudFrame

A few hundred COBOL programs decide whether claims get paid and money moves. Nobody wants to touch them. Everybody eventually must.

CloudFrame builds the software that makes that work survivable. Our transformation engine is deterministic: COBOL becomes maintainable, cloud-ready Java with functional equivalence and numeric precision. Same input, same answer to the same decimal place, every run. AI handles discovery and system understanding. It stays out of the path where the numbers must be right.

Customers modernize in increments they can test and reverse, and deploy where they choose: mainframe, on-prem, or cloud. They include UnitedHealth Group, Verizon, Mastercard, Shell Oil, and US Bank, among others.

Why This Market, Why Now

The mainframe isn't going away. Gartner has publicly forecast that most mainframe exit projects launched in 2026 will miss their intended benefits, largely because generative AI was oversold. Meanwhile, sustained investment from IBM and the major platform vendors keeps the mainframe a place where serious money still gets spent.

That distinction is the whole business. We don't sell an exit. We sell optionality: reduce cost today, transform on your own timeline, land on whatever platform makes sense. Whichever way the customer decides, we're in the deal.

The Role

As a Sales Engineer, you'll be the technical backbone of CloudFrame's sales process — partnering with Enterprise Account Executives (at a ratio of 1 SE to 2 EAEs) across the full account lifecycle: from first technical conversation and proof of concept, through pilots and close, to post-sale technical handoff — proving in technical depth the value of CloudFrame's mainframe modernization platform to Fortune 500 buying committees.

What You'll Do

  • Partner with EAEs throughout the sales cycle, from first technical conversation through close.
  • Lead deep discovery and investigatory conversations with customer stakeholders to understand their technical environment, needs, and goals.
  • Deliver technical-first presentations and demos — both general product demonstrations and personalized, customer-specific demos.
  • Lead and run proofs of concept (POCs) and pilots for prospective customers.
  • Partner with the EAE and customer to build and present the technical components of the Business Value Assessment.
  • Respond to RFPs/RFIs with technical accuracy and strategic positioning.
  • Design and execute evaluation and engagement strategy alongside the sales team.
  • Partner with Global Systems Integrators (GSIs) on technical evaluations and POCs where applicable
  • Own post-sale technical handoff to ensure a smooth transition to delivery
  • Partner closely with product and engineering product strategy, providing product feedback from the field, and prioritization of future functionality
  • Serve as a trusted technical advisor to customer technologists throughout the buying process

What We're Looking For

  • Multiple years of hands-on mainframe z/OS experience.
  • Experience with mainframe languages such as COBOL, Assembler, or similar.
  • Strong communication skills, with comfort presenting to both technical and executive audiences.
  • A collaborative, sales-partnership mindset — you'll work in lockstep with your paired Account Executives.
  • Experience partnering with Global Systems Integrators (GSIs) is a plus.
  • Prior sales engineering experience is a plus, but not required — deep mainframe technical expertise matters more than a sales engineering title.

What We're Offering

  • High technical autonomy — you own the technical strategy and evaluation approach for your accounts, partnering closely with experienced Account Executives and a VP of Sales who knows this market well.
  • A massive, underpenetrated market — mainframe modernization represents a multi-billion dollar addressable market, giving you the chance to solve real, high-stakes technical problems at scale.
  • The opportunity to work directly with technologists at some of the largest companies in the world.
  • A well-funded, profitable company already trusted by category leaders including UnitedHealth Group, Verizon, Shell Oil, US Bank, and others.
  • Competitive equity/stock.
  • Full benefits — health, vision, and dental — company-sponsored, with employees covering their own premiums.
  • 401(k) plan with company match up to $10,000 per year.

Agentic AI

Agentic AI is CloudFrame's orchestrated intelligence layer that combines deterministic, probabilistic, and generative models to assist, guide, and learn across the entire modernization journey—from discovery to transformation and optimization. It is context aware, adaptive and capable of independent operation.
